A Living, Loving, Lasting Union. That is what the Holy Spirit describes for the believer in Ephesians 5:30: "For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones." In the verses preceding this, the Scriptures elevate the union of a man and woman (marriage) to its highest by using it as the example of the union of every believer with the Lord Jesus Christ. In verse 30 we see our union with Jesus stated. It is a living union. Our union with Him is for the here and now. We sing the song "Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before." He gives us grace and strength for now.
It is a loving relationship. Marriage is about love. Thank God for spouses who love us in spite of our faults. Human love does have its limits. Jesus' love has no limits. He knows all about us (no one else does: see Jeremiah 17:9). And He still loves us.
And, it is a lasting union. Jesus said: "I will never leave you, nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5. We need to remind ourselves constantly of our Living, Loving, and Lasting union with our Lord Jesus Christ.
May God bless!
